Balance Personally, Financially and Physically
Energize Your Life – Part 2 | Personal BALC #68
This week we’re sharing more great news from health experts about the most exciting research of 2011. For the first part of this advice, refer to the the Personal BALC #67. More of my favorites:
- Keep your cool for a good night’s sleep. Insomniacs who wear a cap that keeps their brain cool not only sleep well, but also sleep as well as people without any sleep problems, according to a U. of Pittsburgh medical study. Cooling sleeping caps are not yet being sold at your local Walgreens, but try this simple alternative. Keep your bedroom no warmer than 65 degrees and bury all but your head under the covers.
- To feel better, imagine the worst. From U. of Virginia psychologist Tim Wilson, don’t count your blessings, subtract them. Consciously spend a few minutes imaging what your life would be like without the good things. You’ll end up experiencing stronger feelings of love, gratitude, and happiness when you think about what life would be like without the people and things you love.
- To boost self-esteem, get into your friend’s head. Simply being nice to yourself can help you be happier and less stressed. But to ramp up your self-esteem, try writing a letter to yourself about something you’ve been struggling with – but write it in the voice of a trusted friend. What would this friend say about your situation? What would your friend say about how you handle yourself? Researchers found that most people have an easier time being self-compassionate if they pretend to be someone else.
